A Blog About My Favorite Things

2019 Summer Vacation | Part Two

August 20, 2019 by Kristin Fields Leave a Comment

In case you missed it, I shared part one of our summer vacation recap, on the blog yesterday!

Polly started getting really good at self-feeding, right about the time we left for vacation. I remembered thinking that she might never actually swallow the food we were offering, when all of a sudden, she became a voracious eater. That made our trip infinitely easier and I was able to pack all sorts of healthy snacks and meals for days on the go. Her little clip on chair was perfect for our picnic table, but I also carried to most of the restaurants we visited, and I can’t tell you how many questions and compliments we got.

The more days we spent on the beach, the braver our little sister got. She spent a morning playing in the sand with Sophie and they were the cutest things to watch. These stolen moments are the only reason I got any reading done during our trip!

She wasn’t at all bothered by the sands on her face and hands, so I made sure to document it well. I gave myself a pep talk at the beginning of our trip and vowed not to be irritated or frustrated with being sandy and it was one of the most freeing things I’ve ever done. I still got to rest and read, but mostly I sat in a sandy chair with a sandy baby and watched the big girls play in the surf.

I tried to get more photos of Ella and Sophie, but they rarely sat still long enough for me to take one. We all acknowledge that this was the summer of Polly and just got over ourselves. I wish there were more family photos, but I’ll look back on this trip and remember it exactly how it was.

We did manage to sneak off to the water park one afternoon! It’s half price after three o’clock and three hours is the perfect amount of time to tackle all of the water slides. I rarely ride many slides anyway, so I spent those hours at the kiddie pool, while Josh followed the big kids around. Polly was too small to enjoy even the smallest of slides, but she did like the mushroom waterfall and was perfectly content to play in the zero entry area.

More watermelon rash guard photos, because why not?

Sophie is at such a fun age and was so independent this summer. She and Josh spent so much time riding boogie boards in the surf that I barely saw her face on beach days! She wears that scrunchie in her hair almost every day and, gosh, I never want to forget her at this age.

And this guy spent a lot of time hanging out with us this summer. He and Sophie play well together, most of the time, but when they didn’t, he and Josh made up all sorts of games and obstacle courses in the sand.

More beach pictures are coming your way tomorrow!
