A Blog About My Favorite Things

a cricket and a hallelujah

October 8, 2013 by Kristin Fields 5 Comments

We had such a great weekend. It was filled with so many fun things and we spent a lot of uninterrupted family time together. I took many pictures and had big plans to edit, upload and share some of them today. Then Monday happened.

It got off to a pretty good start. I was up early, the temperature was in the mid-fifties and I was running in pants by sunrise. It was a quiet and beautiful morning and my pace was much improved given the weather. It’s much easier to run when the air isn’t so thick you can’t breathe. I strolled into my office, drinking my morning shake, right on time and there was a very pretty, very colorful surprise on my desk. My life planner was delivered on Friday and my friend at work unboxed it and left it laying out for me. I quickly filled up October and read a few blogs while I checked my email and got settled in. Nothing I worked on was successful today. Software didn’t work properly, a video camera wouldn’t cooperate. I sent someone from the mail-room to pick up an SD card this morning and it was faulty and had to be returned. I picked up lunch and it sat untouched for almost two hours before I had time to eat it. I was having serious Olivia Pope withdrawals (if you follow me on Instagram, you’ll understand that). I ended up staying late to wrap up a project and that means I missed my weekly yoga class. I really wanted to make pasta salad tonight and I forgot to pick up the feta cheese when I stopped at the grocery store. Sophie had an accident in the kitchen and we were mopping it up for the third time in two days. Our dishwasher is on the fritz, so the sink is piling up. Our hot water heater (we have a small one under the kitchen counter) emptied into the cabinet for the second time this week and it’s getting a little soggy down there. Y’all. FOR. THE. LOVE.

Josh kept Sophie home from school today. He sent me a text message this morning to let me know she woke up with a “cricket in her neck”. I was asking her how it was and if she felt better a few minutes ago. She said, “Yeah. It was just a little cricket. It’s just three, like me.” Good to know.

A few minutes later she came into the dining room and asked me if I heard a strange noise that sounded like “hick, hick”. I suggested it might be my typing or the washing machine. I think she’s leaning towards a ghost. That’s usually her first thought when a “stwange noise” is detected.

I was having a little pity party about my day, typing this post, but that little ray of sunshine is really trying to put a smile on my face. I just heard a chorus of “halleyuyahs” coming from the play room. She might not can pronounce it just right, but I got the point. If she and her cricket can sing Hallelujah, then so can I.

Pictures of our weekend tomorrow, friends. Happy Monday!
