A Blog About My Favorite Things

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

December 14, 2008 by Kristin Fields 8 Comments

Today was the first day in a long time that we were all at home together, with no real obligations to speak of. Neither of us had to work. There weren’t any birthday parties or church functions to schedule. Nothing had to be prepared or worked on. It was lovely.

To start off the day, I performed a rather heroic rescue of Heather’s our cat, Grey Kitty. When it rained a few days ago, our pump turned over in the cellar and there was about a foot of water standing down there. Grey got stuck in there at some point and had been without food or water for three days. Not to mention the howling that was emanating from the basement. I put on my rain boots and went in. She was thrilled to be out and ate LOTS of food this morning.

We had powdered donuts for breakfast, cleaned house, painted and wrapped lots of presents. We made sausage balls and got all gussied up for Santa. Oh, did I mention that he came to our house today? We have been talking about it for days and she was so excited… right up until I opened the door. She screamed most of the time he was here, but we did manage to get some really cute pictures. I’ll share them later in the week after K finishes making them beautiful.

Gran & Ella opened presents for Gran’s birthday – HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GRAN!!! – and they have matching aprons with their names on them! They also got cookie cutters to make Christmas cookies this week.
This afternoon, we went to Nana’s sister, Gayle’s, house to celebrate Christmas with our cousins. Ella, Bella, Chloe & Braelyn were so much fun and had a great time opening presents and eating lots of food! We had a great afternoon together, we don’t get to spend as much time together as we’d like. We were so thrilled that Amy was in town… she’s expecting her own bundle of joy next summer. She thinks it’s a boy, but with the four girls we already have, I wouldn’t be surprised if she added even more pink to the mix! Click here for more of the cousins’ Christmas.

After leaving Christmas, we rode around and looked at Christmas lights before coming home. Ella got so excited to see them in the yards around town. Guess what we found when we came home?? An elf… in our tree? Have you heard of Elf on the Shelf? I had, but never really considered buying one until a friend recommended it this week. Our elf, Scout, was hiding in our Christmas tree when we got home and Ella has been talking to him about her Christmas wishes all evening. Check back later in the week to see what our mischievous friend has been up to.

Happy Christmas!
