Homecoming Week

Friday night was our small town homecoming. Since we live across the street from the high-school where we graduated, the week of festivities provides with several nights of family events to attend and the girls love it. We enjoy hanging out with our high-school friends (especially those we don’t see as often) and watching our girls soak up the traditions we loved as children.

On Tuesday night, we watched the junior varsity team secure their first win of the season. This was the first game we’ve managed to catch since our SD started helping Cory coach and the girls loved it! Of course we had to give him a yell from the sidelines and they affectionately refer to him on these nights as “Coach Daddy”, which I love. What is better than staying up late on a school night to enjoy school spirit and concession stand chicken fingers? The crowd was a little lighter, so the girls could dance and cheer at the fence line without causing mommy a panic attack. On Thursday night, we stayed at home with Sophie, but Ella walked across the street to the bonfire with her cousin Molly. I LOVED the bonfire when we were in school and I’m so glad she has been able to go at such a young age.

Friday was the parade and Josh picked the girls up at lunch so that they could ride in the annual cousins’ car. My uncle, Heath, always loads them up in the back of his pick-up truck to wave and throw candy. Ella was excited to throw candy at the elementary school where her classmates could see her! She walked over to the pep rally with her cousins, but SD and Sophie decided to take a break from the heat. Later in the afternoon, we went to the Third Annual Alumni Tailgate, which is held just before the game. It is so much fun to pitch tents and grill out on the high-school lawn before watching our team play! The girls were so good and loved running around while the daddies threw footballs and the mommies tried hard not to sweat.

Of course, no small town Friday night is complete without the game. After homecoming festivities on the field, we loaded up at the concession stand and watched the game with our ridiculously large family and quite a few friends. These two were so good and are always up to no good. We love getting to share our fun Friday nights with neighbors and friends!
