A Blog About My Favorite Things

Dailies / Week 27

July 8, 2013 by Kristin Fields Leave a Comment

alternately titled, New York City via Instagram!

Devoured. Packing makes me über happy!! #nokidsallowed

183/365: This was one of those weeks that couldn’t pass quick enough. We were so ready for our long weekend and thankfully, work wasn’t too stressful. My friend & I took a lunch-time trip to the mall on Monday for a few last-minute travel necessities (i.e. tie-dyed skinnies from the Gap and a few tank tops that were on clearance for $2!?). We also managed a yummy salad at the tex-mex place, followed up by a delicious Steel City Pops chocolate popsicle. When I got home that night, I packed for the weekend in an overnight bag. Y’all, this is serious. I packed for 5 days in NYC in a CARRY ON BAG.

I still need to clean house and run a million errands tomorrow, but our bags are packed and tickets are printed!

184/265: Tuesday was house cleaning, children/animal organizing, reading material acquiring and boarding pass printing. Nothing super fun, but exciting nonetheless.

Last errand of the day. Ahhhh... Guess who is spending the night in the ATL?! #wearenotashappyaswelook#newyorktomorrow

185/365: Oh, Wednesday. I took the day off knowing I still had tons to do. I had a lazy morning at home with my girls soaking them up before delivering them to Gran’s. I ran errands, went to the bank and had my nails done so I would be all pretty for our trip. We ended up driving to Atlanta after lunch only to discover our flight had been bumped so many times (due to weather) that we couldn’t possibly make our connection. We spent the night in the ATL with a new flight, directly into Newark for the next morning.

Let's try this thing again... We're making forward progress! #nyc #empirestateyall

186/365: Thursday was much better to us. We still had a slight delay that morning, but it didn’t change our arrival time significantly and we were on the Subway bound for TriBeCa by lunch.

So glad to be here! Headed out now for my fav burger ever... #shakeshackbound #empirestateyall I am in HEAVEN right now. #empirestateyall

We checked into our hotel and ogled its beauty for a few minutes before taking the Subway back up to the Flatiron district for a late lunch. This burger was 18 months in the making and I was beyond THRILLED to inhale this Shackburger and cheese fries alongside one of only two fountain DPs we tracked down all week. DP is scarce in the big city!

The perfect spot for watching fireworks, don't you think?! #nyc #empirestateyall #happybirthdayamerica #nyc #fromtheback #empirestateyall #happybirthdayamerica

We missed out on Harbor Cruise tickets for the fourth, so we hiked to Greenwich Village and hopped the Hudson to watch the show from the Jersey Shore. Best decision ever. It was beautiful, even crammed between 10,000 New Yorkers.

Wishing I was across town, but this will do :). #johnmayertoday #nyc Good morning, New York! #nyc #empirestateyall

187/365: Friday morning I was up bright & early watching my boyfriend on the Today Show. Do you know how devastated I was to be in the same city, but not watching him live? The line-up started at 5:30 that morning way uptown, but we had brunch reservations downtown at 10 o’clock. Factor in two thirty-minute train rides and WAY too many people in midtown and we just couldn’t work it out. Instead, we watched from bed and then indulged in the best French Toast I’ve ever had.

Nerding out at MOMA this morning. #nyc #empirestateyall Afternoon refuel at Grand Central. #nyc #empirestateyall And no trip to GC is complete without coconut gelato! #nyc #empirestateyall

We did end up making the trip uptown later in the day and spent hours at MOMA seeing lots of pretty things. We had a quick lunch (and snack!) in the dining concourse at Grand Central Station before heading back to our room for a much needed nap.

#nyc #empirestateyall #fromtheback Best meal of the trip, so far. #soho #nyc #empirestateyall

We went to the Yankees/Orioles game that night, changed clothes one more time and ate the best meal of our week at Lucky Strike in SoHo. It was a tiny hole in the wall with an exceptional menu. We seriously debated eating lunch there again later in the week!

Off to explore Brooklyn this afternoon! #nyc #empirestateyall #brooklynbridge Why don't we wait a few hours in the hot sun for NYC pizza? #nyc #brooklynbridge #empirestateyall

188/365: We slept in on Saturday morning and then made the trek from our hotel (on foot) to the Brooklyn Bridge and then on across. We waited in line for almost an hour for “the best pizza in New York” at Grimaldi’s.

SO worth the wait! #nyc #brooklynbridge #empirestateyall #nyc #empirestateyall

and it did not disappoint. The tables are right on top of one another, so we ended up eating lunch with a couple we waited in line with. They were from Seattle and we actually had a great time getting to know them briefly over our pizza pie!

Our restaurant selection has been spot on! #nyc #soho #empirestateyall Josh is enamored with the tiny salt shaker. His exact words were, "It makes me feel like a giant." Random SoHo selfie! #nyc #soho #empirestateyall

We had dinner at yet another tiny restaurant in SoHo at almost midnight that night. We loved finding restaurants downtown where there were no tourists to contend with. The only lines we waited in all week were in mid-town, so we tried avoiding that area of town if at all possible.

Took a bus to China Town... #nyc #chinatown #empirestateyall #lumineers #hohey Shopping in SoHo for me & my best K.

189/365: Sunday we were headed home, but not before hiking all over Chinatown, Little Italy and SoHo. We walked and shopped and ate. It was a wonderful way to wind down our last morning in the city.

Our last meal before heading south. #nyc #littleitaly #empirestateyall Bye bye, Big Apple. #nyc #brooklynbridge #empirestateyall #onlycaboftheweek ^This.

We had pasta in Little Italy for lunch, took our only cab ride of the week to the airport and then had a pretty uneventful flight home. If you consider smelly, tearful, kick-filled flights uneventful. What were you up to this week?
