A Blog About My Favorite Things

Ella’s Sixth Grade Interview

August 8, 2018 by Kristin Fields 2 Comments

I always say I’m going to share more video on the blog, but with our camera upgrade earlier this year, it’s actually possible. I’m hoping to up my video game as we get closer to baby’s arrival and start sharing regular vlogs here on the blog. I’m not sure that I’ll try and set a rigid schedule, but I’m hoping to capture more of what our family is really like and — hopefully — that means sharing more of them with you!

Our first video project on the new camera was capturing the girls’ annual back-to-school interviews. While we’ve done a video format once before, but we usually stick with a list of questions and answers. The girls were excited to see the camera set up when the got home from school on Tuesday and we were able to capture their first few thoughts about a new school year and to take a glimpse at all of their current favorites. I love how these videos share so much about who they really are. Ella’s quirky personality and sarcastic sense of humor totally come through in this video and I loved laughing through the out takes with her.

She had such a wonderful first day of middle school, even though she was crazy nervous at drop off that morning. I told her it was the first time I have ever cried on the first day of school and I’ve had eight whole years to work up to it! I thought about her and prayed over her all day and I was so excited to see that text message roll in at 3:05 — right as I pulled into the pickup line. Most days, she’ll ride the bus from the elementary school to the middle school in the mornings (as long as my mom is still a classroom aide!) and Josh will pick her up in the afternoons, but I was lucky enough to do it yesterday and I’ll get to do it many more times over the course of my maternity leave. She told me all about her amazing day, who were favorite teachers were, and what she is most looking forward to this year. I can’t wait to watch her thrive in a more challenging environment and I’m looking forward to experiencing both elementary and middle school this year.

I will be interviewing the girls on their first day of school each year for as long as they will let me. I can’t wait to see what a difference a year (or two) makes in their answers! You can see Ella’s previous interviews here: 2012 | 2013 | 2014 | 2015 | 2016 | 2017.
