A Blog About My Favorite Things

Letters to all

June 30, 2014 by Kristin Fields 3 Comments

Dear Husband, I’m pretty sure I’ve both neglected you severely and taken full advantage of your wonderfulness over the past few weeks and I’m terribly sorry. I’ve missed you like crazy and I’m glad to finally be in your presence for more than ten waking minutes at a time. Hopefully, you are just as thrilled that our quality time is no longer limited to the moments that I’m either sleeping or getting ready for work. Thank for you taking fabulous care of our furry friends (even though you despise our cats), for visiting the vet on behalf of our arthritic dog (your other least favorite thing to do), for consoling me over the countless animal deaths that have occurred in our front yard, for meeting me for Mexican dinners at odd hours and for talking me off of numerous ledges during the course of my trial. After a week at home with you again, I remembered why I like you so much.

Dear Husband’s Office, Thank you from the bottom of my heart that he’ll be in San Francisco the week of our anniversary.

Dear Chase Sapphire Reward Points, Thank you for paying for my plane ticket to California. I’ve never been before and I’m pretty flipping excited to spend four days with my favorite person on the other side of the country. You are the best credit card of all time.

Dear Legal Career, I remember now why I never wanted to be an attorney. I couldn’t love you much more than I do, but we’ve spent far too much time together over the past few months.  I’m going to take a hiatus from large print jobs, colorful paper clips, red felt tip markers and exhibit stickers.

Dear Courthouse Security Guard, I’m as happy as you are that I’m not carting an over packed briefcase and numerous boxes through your metal detector every morning. Hopefully it will be awhile before we meet again.

Dear Office, long time no see. I’m sure you are swimming in unpacked boxes and an over-filled inbox. I promise to pay you some attention this week and safely return you to your previously organized self.

Dear Sandwich Maker at Wall Street Deli & Salad Tosser at Brick & Tin, Although I haven’t missed paying for my lunch over the past three weeks, I’m kind of looking forward to some variety in my lunch breaks.

Dear Gran & Poppy, Thank for taking the BEST care of my little people for the last month. Thank you for dress rehearsal attendance, make-up application, schedule coordinating and vacation supervising. Thank you for keys to your house and a sparkling swimming pool and a gas grill when I hadn’t seen my husband in weeks. Backyard date nights are the best.

Dear Blog Friends, There are exactly 393 unread blog posts in Bloglovin’ as of this morning. Who knows when I’ll get around to reading them all, much less commenting on them, but I sure hope your summer is as fantastic as can be.

Dear Real-Life Friends, I miss you people like crazy. I feel so out of touch. I miss my childhood friend who I haven’t spoken with in months. I miss my Bible study friends and need to spend some time in the Word with you ASAP. I need Pablo’s for dinner and stories about what your kids have been up to. I’ve been watching on Instagram, but it isn’t the same.

Dear Checking Account, I hope you’re hanging out okay. I don’t think we’ve had any proper contact since mid-May, so I’m hoping you’ve managed to be self sufficient. Thank goodness that you’ve learned to pay all of the bills on time without much input from me.

Dear Big Dream House, I’m sorry we couldn’t devote the proper time to making you ours — even though we came to visit a few times and drove by to say hello more times than I can count. I hope the new owners are over-the-moon happy in all of your closets and that they give you a fresh new paint job one day. I was sad to hear you moved on without us, but I know that means God has something even cooler in store for us.

Dear House Plans, We like you even more than we liked that big dream house, but you intimidate the heck out of me. Hopefully we’ll find a place to put you soon. Please be kind to us and help us not to kill each other or argue too often over light fixtures and paint colors.

Dear Work Wife, Let’s have Chick-fil-A for breakfast this week. Okay? I’m sure we have way too many stories to swap at this point.

Dear Little People, Thank you for coming home just as dramatic and whiny as you were when you left. At least I know you weren’t perfect angels while I was gone. That makes it just a little bit easier to swallow the time away. Thank you for loving the beach as much as you do and for taking good care of Gran while you were there. Thank you for tackling me on the picnic table when I surprised you for breakfast in Gulf Shores. I cried almost the whole way there and it was worth the ten hours in the car within 48 hours just to see your face. I’d drive it every day of the week if that’s what it took to see you. Thank you for a fabulous “stay-cation” at home together this week. We’ve been pretty lazy together, but that is exactly what this mama needed. You two drive me positively insane, but I’d rather be crazy together than sane apart!

Dear External Hard Drive, Thanks so much for crashing on me and holding almost ten years of graphic design work hostage. It’s been awesome. There is nothing like taking the few minutes of sanity I have every day to recreate work I’ve already done. I’m hoping you are more than cooperative on Friday when the fabulous IT guy tries to resurrect you. I really need you to cooperate.

Dear Design Customers, Please see letter above. I’m trying really hard to finish your projects with very little help from my computer and its accessories.

Dear Blog, I’m going to do my best to pay you some serious attention this week. Promise.
