A Blog About My Favorite Things

DIY Superhero Birthday Party

August 22, 2016 by Kristin Fields 1 Comment

As much as I love being a mama to my girls, I know that many of you probably have little men in your life and hate never seeing any party content that you can actually use as inspiration. My sister always has the greatest ideas for Hudson’s party and since I collaborated with her on paper products this year, I asked if I could share a few images from his party, here on the blog. Hudson is all boy and therefore, superhero obsessed. He has “saved the day” all summer long and has loved telling me all about his superhero party. I loved seeing how much he loved the paper products (even at three) — it is always more fun to create for little people when they love what you are making for them!

My sister hosted the party at my parents’ house and we prayed for days that the rain would hold off. The weather was perfect and pretty cool for a July afternoon and we crowded around this little guy to celebrate his third birthday with a splash! There were masks and capes and all kind of fun superhero goods to share. The invitations were are starting point for the paper suite and they are some of my very favorite “character” invitations yet. I bought a layered Illustrator file on etsy that let you completely customize the color scheme of each character. I had to hand draw a few of the chest emblems and I modified the illustrations for a few of the other pieces, so these worked perfectly! She saw the dotted clouds on another invitation design she liked, so we used those for inspiration.

She had several different favors laid out for the kids to take — we know from experience that little hands like to load up on fun toys for the pool! She bought inexpensive goggles, water guns, foam shooters and foam masks and had them all on a table within arm’s reach. I made four different designs for the favor tags, which closely mimicked the design for the invitations. We just tied on the “Thanks for flying by” tags and placed all of the favors in a big wire basket.

She found tons of cute party stuff at our local craft store and coupled that with plastic trays and platters already in our stash. These superhero cookies were iced by a friend and they were both adorable and delicious!

For cupcake toppers, we made paper capes and, using a tiny hole punch, added them to lollipops for the tops of the cupcakes. Since Hudson has a peanut allergy, dum dum suckers are one of our go-to treats for him, so these were perfect. We all joked that on paper, the capes looked like tulips or ghosts, but once you added them to the cupcakes, they look so perfect!

This was such a fun party and is something you could easily pull together with primary colored items already in your pantry. I’ve added a listing for this printable party package in my etsy shop, so go get you one! DIY Superhero Birthday | tazandbelly.com
