Taz and Belly

A Blog About My Favorite Things

Happy S-I-X

April 14, 2016 by Kristin Fields 2 Comments

Happy Birthday, Tazzie!

Six years ago yesterday, I got a really nice haircut. I had my fingernails and toenails painted. I spent a few hours puttering around your nursery and K came by to take the last photo of my big round belly. Six years ago this morning, I woke up hours early and cleaned house. We loaded the dishwasher, made the bed and ran by the bank. We walked into a darkened hospital corridor at five o’clock in the morning ready to meet your sweet face. Things were so different than they were will Ella. I had a plan and I knew how the day would go. I got to shower this time and was armed with plenty of chapstick. In true Sophie fashion, you made quite the entrance. Warm and cozy and wedged behind my hip (where you spent the prior six months), you refused to come out and had to be forcibly removed. You were purple and silent and beautiful.

It’s hard to believe it’s been six years since you completely wrecked our existence. We were quiet(er) and tidy and organized and you blazed in with your pixie face and loud mouth and completely changed everything we thought we knew about family. You’ve marched to the beat of your own drum since birth and it is such a joy to watch you every day. You are quirky and irreverent and have the best sense of humor. You love music and reading and the beach and you would eat spaghettios every day for the rest of your life if I let you. You are late to bed and early to rise, but you always have a smile on your face. You are the best snuggler and you never hesitate to tell us when we aren’t paying you enough attention. When your daddy started calling you Taz, I hated it. I didn’t want you to be a cartoon character, I wanted you to be a Sophie. It took no time at all for you to grow into that name and I will never grow tired of calling you Tazzie. He couldn’t have done a better job if he tried. You are always on the move, always making noise, always leaving destruction in your path. Even when you don’t mean to. You are the spice of our life and although you are WILD, you are the easiest little thing to love.

I cannot wait to wake you up this morning and snuggle your face. There will be breakfast in bed and presents and celebration for as many days as we can convince your daddy. Birthdays will always be special in this house and today, YOU are the queen.
