A Blog About My Favorite Things

Vaseline, mice and blogging

Okay, I admit it. I read blogs. Actually, if I were being perfectly honest, I’m obsessed. I love reading about the families of total strangers. I love seeing how people discipline their children, love their husbands and decorate their houses. I have several friends with blogs – they’ve been begging me to start my own. If I started a blog, what would I write about? We already have a website, full of pictures and stories about Ella… what else is there to talk about?

Yesterday was Ella’s birthday party and I decided after a huge success that I had blog material after all. This afternoon, Ella was playing in her room with all of the birthday loot and I found myself with nothing to do! I sat down, signed up with blogger and created by banner. As I was sitting at my computer enjoying the quiet, Ella was “cooking” me some coffee and muffins. I ate them (of course) and asked for more coffee and cookies this time. I figured surely that would buy me a few more minutes. After a long span of silence I noticed that she wasn’t back and something in the air didn’t seem quite right. Despite the numerous birthday gifts littering her room, I walked in to find this mess. She smiled at me and kept rubbing it in, oblivious to the error of her ways. When I asked her what she thought about it she smiled that quirky little smile and said, “I put it on my knees.” I’m probably the only parent in the world who instead of spanking her, just laughed and took pictures. It was far too funny for punishment… despite the fact that this is like the third time she’s done it since the beginning of summer. Maybe next time I’ll spank her. Maybe not.

After cleaning her up and the mess that comes with the aftermath of a birthday party, I was a little worn out and my first post was looking shorter and shorter. Then… I realized that Ratatouille was back. Yes, that is my affectionate name for the newest member of our family. A mouse that could sleep in a shot glass and has taken over my pantry. Needless to say, after sitting on the counter while Josh chased the little bugger, I’m too tired to upload countless party pictures. For now, enjoy these ridiculously cute pictures of Vaseline and pray that my mouse never, ever comes back.

I’m sure you’re wondering why I questioned my ability to drum up blog material. Clearly, I have material. I have plenty of material. PLENTY. I promise birthday revelry tomorrow.
