A Blog About My Favorite Things

Saturday Night Kinda Pink

March 9, 2015 by Kristin Fields 1 Comment

Alternately titled: The post 89% of my readers won’t care about, but I share it anyway because it’s my blog.

For Josh’s birthday, way back in January, I bought him tickets to see Houndmouth in concert and got us a room to stay in Atlanta overnight. The kids spent the night with his parents on Friday night, so we got to sleep late on Saturday morning and be lazy around the house for a few hours before we left. My plan had been to eat somewhere fun once we got into town, but we were later leaving and were starving, so we stopped for lunch on the way.

We got to our hotel just in time for check-in and had a few hours to ourselves before we had to get ready, so more laziness (and a few episodes of Game of Thrones) ensued. And true to form, we can’t seem to ever go on a trip together without a good an embarrassing story. Let this serve as a lesson to you, friends: always, ALWAYS, put the do not disturb sign on the door of your hotel room. Otherwise, the cleaning lady will waltz right in (without knocking) and find you in various stages of undress. True story.

Also, after the Uber car picks you up and gets approximately three blocks from your hotel room, you will remember that you left the tickets on the ironing board and the driver will be forced to make a u-turn in weekend traffic!

We got to Terminal West about ten minutes before the doors opened and were able to get inside and grab a quick bite to eat before securing our spots right next to the stage. The timing didn’t work out for us to have a big sit down dinner before the show, but the snacks at Stationside were pretty much perfect. Josh had a burger and I had the best grilled cheese of my life, alongside some tots and chipotle ketchup. Of course, I grabbed a concert t-shirt and the coolest Koozie ever (which Ella has already tried to steal from me multiple times) before the show started.

We didn’t finish dinner quick enough to be on the front row (we should have eaten in shifts), but the second row will do. The opening band was not our cup of tea, but we powered through with Instagram, the internet, and a whole lot of laughs.

Houndmouth was amazing. So, so good. Yes, the lead singer wore a sequined leotard and bell bottoms that I’m almost positive were made for a woman. And yes, we stood right in front of the lovely Katie and I’m pretty sure Josh’s eyes never left her sight. BUT, we danced and laughed and had the best time ever and I was lucky enough to grab the set list at the end. Another girl closer to mid-stage reached up and untaped it from the floor and then handed it to her boyfriend. He turned and saw me standing there and asked me if I wanted it. Let’s just say I made a mad dash out of there because I’m pretty sure when his girlfriend turned back around, she was NOT a happy camper. He might have been going home alone.

It was after midnight when we got back to our hotel, but of course, we couldn’t go to bed just yet. We met Josh’s INTERNET FRIEND for snacks after and got kicked out of the restaurant at 3 o’clock in the morning. Thank you, Daylight Savings time. We had so much fun laughing with him and chatting and I’m pretty sure that I remember Josh asking a police officer to take a selfie with him on our walk back to the hotel.

And because I know you are dying to see what all the fuss is about, here are two of my favorite moments from the show. I recorded these for the girls, who sang every word when we did the photo & video recap of our evening for them last night. We are pretty much ensuring that they are the coolest elementary school kids around.

First up, the chorus from their newest single Sedona (album out March 17th — yippee). “Saturday Night Kinda Pink” seems like the battle cry for this tour — people were waving their koozies proudly and yelled right alongside the band.

And my favorite lines from “On the Road” (on their current album) — Josh and I can be found singing these few lines around the house quite regularly.

Overnight date #1 of 2015 for the win!
