A Blog About My Favorite Things

More Fancy Stuff

September 11, 2009 by Kristin Fields 1 Comment

Since we were only inviting seven little girls to our fancy tea party, we could afford to be a little frivolous with our favors. I know they shouldn’t be expected, but Ella always gets so excited when the birthday girl or boy gives her a little prize and I thought nothing could be better at a fancy tea party than these!

Fancy Nancy Birthday Party

I got the buckets at Hobby Lobby at the end of spring for about $1.50 each. They were royal blue, purple and orange. I spray painted them with matte ballet slipper pink, filled them with butterfly tissue paper and they sure look fancy! Inside are pink feather boas, a sparkly tiara and wand, a fancy pen with a plume, candy necklaces, a sparkly rhinestone ring, lipstick shaped candy and a little pink bottle of nail polish. Top it off with a custom tag reading “Thanks for coming, Fancy Pants!” and you’ve got the fanciest favor ever. These cost about $7.50 each* when all was said and done.

For the centerpieces we wanted to be very dramatic. There are two: one on the fancy table and one on the table in my dining room where the adult food will be served. I started with two white sap buckets from Gran and filled them half full with foam oasis {not wet!}. I bought the stems of fancy stuff at two different places. A sweet store nearby, Chelsea Lane, had a massive sale several weeks ago and everything was 75% off and buy one get one free. Their stems were $1.75 each, so I got two for $0.44. I bought all they had in pink, green and turquoise. I also got the ornaments hanging on the front of the buckets for about $0.50 each. The remainder of the stems were bought at Hobby Lobby when the floral and Christmas departments were both 40% off. That meant I could shop in both departments and pretty much get two for one. I filled in around the inside with left-over feather boas, wrapped some glittery, starry garland around the buckets and tied the ornaments on the front with hot pink organza ribbon. I am so happy with how they turned out and at $15, taking only about 30 minutes to complete, they were well worth the time and money spent.

Fancy things are starting to come together around here. I’ll share some pictures tomorrow of Ella’s school day celebration and what we’ll be up to around the fancy house to celebrate the day.

Check back on Saturday afternoon for a tea party wrap up and on Sunday evening for a few fancy sneak peaks. We’ll be enjoying pictures of the big party all week!
