Scout’s in the House!!

December 6, 2009 by Kristin Fields 3 Comments

Ella and I have been talking about Scout the Elf and when he might make his December debut. I had hoped he would come on December 1st, but this week has been a little crazy and I forgot to let him know he was expected!

On Tuesday morning I went out the back door to crank the car before waking Ella up and I saw him in the kitchen. I ran back in to get her up and she was a “sleepy girl, tired girl” {that’s what we say when she’s sleepy}. She wanted a few more minutes until I told her that I saw somebody in the kitchen. Ella cracked an eye and asked me who. When I told her that Scout was on the counter she sat straight up and said, “What’s he doing?!?!”

When she came running into the kitchen she found Scout hanging out in a little Christmas tree, but that wasn’t even the best part. Not only did he write her a sweet note, but he cooked breakfast and even cleaned up after himself!! We fixed us a quick bowl of pigs-in-a-blanket and hit the road, but she told everyone she saw on Tuesday about our little visitor.

Excuse the dazed look on her face, she had been awake for less than one minute when I snapped these pictures!

Scout’s note read:

Dear Ella,I am so excited that Christmas is almost here! I have been hoping to hear from you but decided to make the trip and surprise you with breakfast this morning. I was worried you had forgotten about me.

Santa was so excited to see you on Monday. He told me what a big girl you were and that you were going to be a big sister. That is such exciting news! Next year, you will have to teach Sophie all about your little elf friend.

Santa has been watching you and wants you to be a big girl for your mom. Be a helper. Use your inside voice. Go to bed on time and stay there! Always say please and thank you. Be sweet to your friends. Love on your baby sister.

I will be here at your house for a few weeks hanging out until Christmas. Santa wants me to write him letters and tell him how you are doing. Are you going to be a good girl? I hope so. Have a great day at school and enjoy these piggies and their blankies!

Love, Scout the Elf

Since then, Scout has appeared swinging from a hanging lantern in the living room, wrapped around the steeple of a little white church on our mantle and peeking out of daddy’s stocking. I would say, “I wonder where he’ll be tomorrow” only Ella told him tonight that she thought he’d have fun in a little tree in our living room. I’m guessing he’ll follow directions.
